Serving a Variety of Family, Small Group,
Home and Public Education Interests, the FARM Offers Educationally Fun Experiences
of the Early 1800s:
The industrial revolution of the mid-1800s would change forever the tools
employed and hence the lifestyle prior to the ‘modern’ 1850s with more ‘convenient’ methods
of labor. Few worked off the farm. Families were large and shared together
the labors and simple pleasures of life. Community life was a vital part of
each person in work bees, frolics, and church. While work was heavy and unceasing,
rush and time pressure were avoided with character qualities of diligence,
and forethought. Children were orderly and able at an early age to be productive
and responsible. Community education emphasized virtuous character more than
head knowledge.
Spend two pleasurable hours learning about and experiencing local frontier
life in the 1800’s. Not using a strict ‘reenactment’ format
we will relate how technology and progressive settlement changed lifestyles
throughout the 1800s in Ohio. Call today to learn of currently available activities
and a convenient time to visit. Informational talks to local groups are available
on a range of historical subjects and to describe the Knox County Historical
Farm’s format and activities.
Enjoy your visit with undivided personal attention from the host family
for your group without the tiring distraction of lines, crowds and noise. As
you leave the farm donate as you are able and feel appropriate for the services
you received...there are no set fees or prices - our guarantee of a profitable
experience.
Schedule a two-hour tour for your group of 15-35 or come on a day when individuals
and small groups can join a public tour. Young, old, active or passive, there
is something at the Farm that will interest you.
Located 5 miles east of Mt. Vernon, OH just south of SR 229 on Big Run Road.
