General info

The Community Foundation of Mount Vernon & Knox County was created in 1944 (as the Mount Vernon Community Trust), and now manages more than $37 million in charitable assets.  Its 290 separate funds provide nearly $2 million per year in college scholarships, designated and donor-advised grants, and unrestricted grants administered through competitive process.

Community Foundations, like ours, are known for their ease of access to community donors who wish to establish named charitable funds capable of benefiting favorite charities in perpetuity.  At The Community Foundation of Mount Vernon & Knox County such funds can be created with an initial gift of just $5,000.

The Community Foundation is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors whose members are selected throughout Knox County for their keen understanding of community needs.  The Community Foundation also sponsors a Youth Philanthropy Initiative comprised of representatives from each Knox County High Schools.
