SPI Spot Kinetic Challenge Childrens Summer Reading Program (Wed. 8 Jun, 2016 10:00 am - Thu. 9 Jun, 2016 1:00 pm)

The SPI Spot Kinetic Science Challenge will be the next event the  2016 "Get Ready, Get Set, READ!" summer reading program at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County main and branch locations.

Grab your sneakers and get ready for some science in action at the Gambier Community Center gym on Wednesday, June 8, 10:00 a.m. and then at the old Fredericktown High School gymnasium at 1:00 p.m. (117 Columbus Rd).

On Thursday, June 9, the program will be held at the Mount Vernon Y-Sports Center Y-Sports Center (200 W. Chestnut Street by United Dairy Farmers) at 10:00 a.m. then again at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Community Center.

The programs are designed for elementary school age children. The programs are free and all are welcome to attend any or all of the programs.  Be sure to sign up your children for this year's summer reading program at any of our library locations to be eligible for prizes, etc.

Exercise Your Mind-Read "The 5:2 Fast Diet" w John Chidester (Thu. 9 Jun, 2016 1:00 pm)

The 5:2 Diet, also known as The Fast Diet, is currently the most popular intermittent fasting diet. Join Library Director John Chidester for his journey on the 5:2 diet and how it has changed his life for a free Exercise Your Mind, Read Adult Summer Reading Program on Thursday, June 9, 1:00 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street.

 

Learn the basics of the 5:2 diet and enter for your chance to win one of two, 5:2 Diet books. Every patron will receive an entry for a weekly and grand prize giveaway for attendance. Program located in the A/B meeting room from 1:00-2:00 pm. Free and open to all. Carbalicious refreshments provided.

Youth Unplugged Showcase (Thu. 9 Jun, 2016 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

2016 FREE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES at Ariel-Foundation Park

Come out and show your support for some young local talent at for Youth Unplugged.  The showcase will feature talented, local teenage musical acts.

6:00 p.m. - Abby Baker
6:30 p.m. - Hailey Davis
7:00 p.m. - Julia & William Manning
7:30 p.m. - Megan Campbell
8:00 p.m. - Life to Live
8:30 p.m. - Maya McDonald & Mark Fongheiser
9:00 p.m. - The Undecided

Admission is free, however contributions to the Free Summer Concert Series will be accepted.  Free seating is available, or you are welcome to bring your own lawn chairs.  Food and beverage service, including legal alcoholic beverages, will be available in the pavilion at 5:00 p.m.
