Lima Interescolar Big Band from Peru (Wed. 4 May, 2016 7:00 pm)

2016 Ariel-Foundation Park Free Summer Concert Series

Grab a lawn chair and head to Ariel-Foundation Park on Wednesday, May 4th!  The Foundation Park Conservancy is excited to introduce the season-opening act for the 2016 Free Summer Concert Series, the Lima Interescolar Big Band.

Based out of Lima, Peru, the Lima Interescoar Big Band is a student ensemble of young musicians, ages 13-19, whose combination of jazz classics and Afro-Peruvian jazz music is the perfect, upbeat soundtrack for an early spring concert at Ariel-Foundation Park.  Instruments such as the cajon cajita (trapezoidal small box drum) and quijada (the jaw bone of a donkey) are staples of the sound of the band.  The repertoire will include jazz classics such as "Solar" (Miles Davis) and "Cottontail" (Duke Ellington), and on the Peruvian-side, "Toromata" (traditional Afro-Peruvian folk melody) and "Maria Lando" (Chabuca Granda).

The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Schnormeier Event Center at Ariel-Foundation Park.  Admission is free, however contributions for the Free Summer Concert Series will be accepted.  Free seating is available, or you are welcome to bring your own lawn chairs.

Reserve a preferred seating table of 8 for $50 by calling 740-501-9293
