Ten hours of nostalgic chills and thrills will be featured during the annual “Halloween Classic Scary Movie Marathon” beginning at 2:00 p.m. until midnight on Saturday, October 22, at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street.

This year’s theme will be “Monsters” and in addition to showcasing our own rendition of a haunted house in the lower level of the main library, the following classic monster movies will be featured:

2:00 p.m. - Creature From the Black Lagoon - 1954
4:00 p.m. - Island of Terror (Peter Cushing & the Silicates!) – 1966
6:00 p.m. - The Wolf Man - 1941
8:00 p.m. – Gremlins – (PG) 1984

10:00 p.m. – Tremors – (PG-13) 1990

Participants can come for one or all shows. Halloween costumes and photos using our backdrop and props are encouraged. Free hot dogs, treats and giveaways will be featured throughout the program. Special practice sessions and a dance off to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video will be held at 9:30 p.m. and excerpts from episodes of the TV classic “The Munsters” will be shown as time allows between films.

This event is designed for adults and teens. Children under 12 must have parent or guardian present.  After main library closes at 5:00 p.m., the west entrance doors by the main parking lot behind the library will remain open for party participants. Security staff will be on site.

Younger children will have their own age-appropriate movie and treats program during Mount Vernon trick or treat night at the Halloween Family Open House on Monday, October 31, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the main library.

All programs are free and open to the public. Co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library. For more information, call 740-392-BOOK (2665) Ext. 243, email [email protected] or visit
