What is Synthetic Biology and How Should We Use It?

For adults and older children (6+)

At the Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County

This exciting event is part of a nationwide festival that provides an opportunity to learn about the emerging field of synthetic biology. Participants can expect a short presentation and fun hands-on activities facilitated by scientists in biology and related fields. Visitors will design a "super organism" to solve a problem, extract DNA from wheat germ, and discuss which future technologies they would support. These activities are designed to introduce participants to synthetic biology content and promote informal conversations about how synthetic biology is interconnected with our society. The event is free and is suitable for adults and older children (6+) . Refreshments will be provided. No registration required.
